Hand painted wooden Christmas decorations
Now that December is just around the corner and thoughts are turning to the festive season, I wanted to share a sneaky little peak at my new wooden Christmas decorations. I’ve wanted to turn some of my festive designs into decorations for a while now, so I’m really excited to launch them online as I think they’ve turned out really nicely! Here’s how they came together…
First off, I played around with some festive motifs from a few of my prints, finally deciding to use the little Toadstool and Moth from my Hedgerow pattern along with my Robin and Rosehip design, which I thought might sit nicely together as Christmas decorations.
Laser cutting has been something which has interested me for a while and I’ve been lucky enough to work with the brilliant Emma from The Moonlit Press to create these decorations.
Once I’d decided which festive friends I wanted to recreate and had prepared the designs digitally, Emma was able to laser cut them from birch plywood, with little details like the robin’s eye, feathers and toadstool spots being engraved into the surface of the wood.
If you haven’t seen a laser cutter working before, it’s mesmerising to watch!
Once the designs were cut, I got to work sanding and painting each individual decoration by hand.
Ta da! Here are the finished decorations, tied with bright red ribbon ready to hang in your homes.
The decorations are available to purchase from my online shop individually or as a set of three. I really hope they bring you a little festive cheer.
